Police give major update on Celeste Rivas Hernandez case after her body was found decomposed in singer’s car

Police have released new information regarding their investigation into the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were found in a vehicle.

The young girl's body was discovered 'decomposed' in the trunk of a Tesla, a car reportedly registered to the singer known as d4vd, after a 'foul smell' was reported emanating from it.

The real name of the singer is David Anthony Burke.

Celeste was first reported missing on April 5, 2024, having last been seen in Lake Elsinore, California.

She was only 13 years old at the time she disappeared, and her identity was tragically confirmed as the body in the car trunk following forensic examinations.

Celeste's family expressed their sorrow over the discovery and launched a GoFundMe campaign for assistance: "As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week," they shared.

The page description further stated: "They are seeking support to give her a proper farewell. Any contributions you can make are deeply appreciated."

Authorities have now provided a significant update on the case.

An LAPD spokesperson informed PEOPLE: “Several pieces of evidence have been collected and will undergo analysis by detectives in the upcoming days."

They further stated: “Investigators are actively pursuing multiple leads.”

It was also confirmed that detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division have executed a search warrant at a local address in relation to Celeste's death, and an officer confirmed the vehicle had been parked at the location for several days prior to being discovered.

The LAPD had earlier issued a statement to NBC on Wednesday, September 16, saying: "At this stage, the LAPD has not received a crime classification from the coroner regarding the manner or cause of death. Consequently, we lack suspect information at this time."

Authorities did confirm that they are treating Celeste's death as a homicide.

A representative for d4vd informed NBC Los Angeles that their client is "fully cooperating" with authorities; however, the rest of his tour dates have been cancelled.

According to Rolling Stone, the upcoming deluxe edition of his album has also been put on hold by his record label.

The singer gained fame after he began composing and releasing music online.

No criminal charges have been filed in relation to Rivas’ death.

LADbible Group has previously reached out to d4vd's representatives for comment and has also contacted the LAPD regarding the update.
