Doctor warns three X-rated moves in bedroom could ‘break’ your manhood

Engaging in certain sex positions might expose you to significant injury risks during intimate moments.

Anyone who has ventured beyond the realm of 50 Shades of Grey understands that consent and safety are paramount.

No one desires nerve damage from improperly used handcuffs or wants to become one of those cases where doctors need to remove foreign objects.

Preventing injury, or at least any non-consensual injury, is crucial, and one doesn't have to delve into BDSM to encounter risks.

Dr. Michael C. Gerling has highlighted three positions that may significantly increase the risk of a particular injury.

To clarify, this primarily concerns those who have a "carrot" rather than a "rose" in their trousers, if you understand my meaning.

This refers to a penile fracture, where the erect penis suffers a split due to tissue damage.

Missionary

Indeed, even the most conventional positions can risk causing a penile fracture.

A study from Brazil revealed that approximately 40 percent of penile fracture cases occurred during missionary.

Considering that missionary is a widely favored position, it makes sense that it accounts for a substantial portion of these injuries.

Cowgirl/Cowboy

Surprisingly, this position resulted in a lower percentage of injuries.

Only 12 percent of reported penile fracture cases occurred while the couple was in the cowgirl position, with the receiving partner on top.

The reasons for this lower percentage aren't entirely clear.

Perhaps the angles involved are less prone to breakage, or the energy required to bounce or grind reduces direct stress on the member.

In any event, this could be a safer option for those particularly concerned.

Doggystyle

The primary offender.

Doggystyle accounts for roughly 43 percent of penile fractures, and it's not hard to imagine why.

In the heat of passion, actions might become a bit too intense.

At times, this might lead to a couple becoming 'uncoupled', and just one strong but misdirected thrust could result in a mishap.

Other positions

Considering that the above three account for a significant portion of sexual encounters, other positions contribute to just a small fraction, about four percent.

However, this doesn't mean you should neglect caution when trying the wheelbarrow, butter-churner, or pinball wizard.

How to avoid penile fractures

Fortunately, there are measures you can take to engage in safe sex, beyond avoiding unwanted pregnancy or infections.

Dr. Gerling cautioned that engaging in sex on unstable surfaces can be a risk factor, as can rougher sexual activities.

“Rough sex often leads to injuries where a partner unintentionally harms the other. This can be minimized by adopting a slower, more cautious approach with clear communication,” advised the doctor.

Therefore, take things slowly and ensure everyone is comfortable with the situation before increasing intensity.

Foreplay and lubrication are also crucial, not just for injury prevention but for overall enjoyment.

What happens if you are injured

If you unfortunately suffer a penile fracture, seek medical attention immediately.

“Unlike most fractures managed by orthopedic surgeons, this type requires evaluation by a urologist,” Gerling explained.

Surgery is usually necessary to restore full function, including erections and urination.

This means avoiding sexual activity for around six weeks post-surgery.

Understandably, after such an injury, sex might not be your top priority.
